Delta Hockey Academy U17 forward Daegun Chong signs with the Panthers

The Port Moody Panthers today announced the signing of 2006-born forward Daegun Chong for the 2023-24 Pacific Junior Hockey League season.

Chong played 15 games for the Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League during the 2022-23 season, finishing with two goals and seven points as a 16-year-old.

He was with Delta Hockey Academy U16 Prep in 2021-22 and posted 10 goals and 29 points in 36 games. Chong looks forward to joining the Panthers’ environment of development for his first season of junior hockey.

“The Panthers provide an environment for players to develop a lot, and the team’s staff helps me to push myself,” said Chong, who is from Korea and makes his home in Coquitlam.

Chong hopes to bring a drive to succeed each time he steps on the ice. “My goals with the Panthers are to be helpful and a contributing player. I want to do my best and dedicate my ability to my team,” he explained.

He sees himself as a skilled forward who prides himself on using his vision to make plays. “I think I am a creative player. I can see how players are moving and read the game. Also, I really work hard for my teammates, and I can give everything I have for my team,” Chong added.

Chong joins forwards Wesley Suszezwiez, Marcus Lindholm, Mark Wu, Nicolas Lee, and Tristan Lindsay, defenders Tyson Segarty, Lucas Crescenzo, Matthew Kim, and Ethan Chu, and goaltender Ty Angus as 10 incoming players to sign with the Panthers for the 2023-24 PJHL season.
